Join the #GivingTuesday Movement Tomorrow by Giving to POP

Following our national day of thanks, then a full weekend of shopping deals in retail stores and online, is a day that has been recently dubbed Giving Tuesday. In 2012, the day was founded as a movement toward coming together “for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.”

This Giving Tuesday video concisely describes what the day is all about:

The POP Project encourages you to join the 10,000 organizations nationwide who are already involved in the movement. Give 10 minutes or give 10 hours, but find a way to give back to your community in a way that is meaningful to you.

POP does not have a specific volunteer opportunity planned for Giving Tuesday this year, but here are a few ways that you can use Giving Tuesday to give something to our mission:

1. Give your Support

The POP Project is a 100% privately funded organization. Every dollar given goes directly to our programmatic and administrative needs. Further, every dollar donated translates to $10+ worth of books donated to men, women, and children in our community. POP is currently raising $3,500 to cover our 2015 expenses. 2. Give Children’s Books

POP currently has a surplus of adult fiction and nonfiction, but our children’s books always find new homes much more quickly. If you have a handful of extra children’s books, consider dropping them at one of POP’s drop boxes around town. If you have many books to give, please contact us to arrange a pickup instead of burdening our drop box locations during this busy time of year.

3. Give a Wish-Come-True Moment

With a budget dependent on private donations, sometimes POP has to juggle which supplies and equipment are essential and which must wait until the next donation. Help us make those decisions easier. Consider purchasing one of the items on our Wish List or sending a donation designated to our Wish List Fund. Contact us for more information.

4. Give a Tweet

Sometimes, even a retweet or a Facebook like makes a big difference to our mission. Help us get the word out about our mission, our successes, and our ongoing needs. Like the POP Project on Facebook at facebook.com/popproject, on Twitter @thepopproject, and here on Google+.

5. “Give a (dot)org Some (dot)love”

How much do you really know about the POP Project? Take some time to learn about what we do. Explore our recently redesigned website and learn about what we’re up to. Read through our blog posts and comment on the stories you like the most. Share our email newsletter with a friend, or sign up at the bottom of our homepage if you’re not already on our email list.

6. Give us Your Ideas

POP is always excited to grow and expand to new locations in Buncombe and surrounding counties. Are you in Henderson, Madison, or Haywood counties and know an organization in need of adult fiction or nonfiction? Are you even a little farther west or east? We’d love to help! Contact us today to tell us more about your needs or ideas.
