Give Books

IMG_0788

The need for good books is ongoing, so donations that serve our partner organizations are always welcome!

Supporting us is easy. We need good books. You want to give good books. We’ll gladly take them.

Due to budgetary and storage constraints, the POP Project has developed specific requirements for the books we accept into our programs.

Please READ THESE REQUIREMENTS before making a book donation.

Our biggest ongoing needs are:

  • Spanish-language books
  • children’s, early readers, and YA
  • Black History and books appealing to African Americans
  • religion/spirituality
  • paperback genre fiction (especially sci-fi and fantasy)

Drop Boxes

For your convenience, POP has several drop locations located in and around Asheville. Drop boxes are designed to collect small donations (individual donations up to 20 books) over the course of several weeks between pickups. These boxes are available during the regular operating hours of the locations in which they are housed.

**Please help us respect the businesses hosting drop boxes by not overloading them with large donations! See the Large Donation section below if you have a full box or more of books to give.**

Our current donation locations include:

  • Hands On Asheville-Buncombe: In downtown Asheville: 50 South French Broad Ave, Asheville, NC 28801
    • NOTE: **Hands On accepts children’s books ONLY for their Read-Cycle program.**
  • Literacy Council of Buncombe County: In downtown Asheville: 31 College Place, Asheville, NC 28801
  • Spellbound Children’s Bookshop: In North Asheville: 640 Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC 28804

MODERATE AND LARGE DONATIONS

Moderate Donations: For moderate donations (20-150 books), POP prefers that you drop off books at our storage location. Address and directions will be provided and a POP rep will wait no more than 20 minutes at your scheduled drop time. Some home pickups may be arranged depending on circumstances.

Please READ THESE REQUIREMENTS before making a book donation.

**WE’RE SORRY, BUT POP IS CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ARRANGE BOOK PICKUPS OUTSIDE ASHEVILLE CITY LIMITS.**

Large Donations: We apologize, but due to storage and budgetary constraints, the POP Project has had to set limits on the number of books we accept from each donating household or organization.

POP IS CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ACCEPT SINGLE-DAY BOOK DONATIONS OF 150+ BOOKS OR MORE THAN 300 BOOKS/YEAR FROM INDIVIDUAL HOUSEHOLDS OR ORGANIZATIONS.

Exceptions to this rule are only being made for our biggest need books:

  • Spanish-language books of all levels and subjects
  • Children’s books, early readers, and YA
  • Black History and books of all levels appealing to African American readers

Please READ THESE REQUIREMENTS before making a book donation.

The POP Project is always looking for new locations willing to host one of our drop boxes. We ask for a minimum 3-month commitment, and that boxes be placed in public areas that are easily accessible. In return, we will periodically advertise your business/organization as a drop box location on our social media feed, newsletter, and/or blog.

To host a drop box, please contact us today.

Organized Book Drives

Are you interested in organizing a book drive to benefit the POP Project? POP is always in need of books for children and youth, ages 3-18. We accept gently used books from board books to early readers to YA fiction and literature.
