Things are “POP“-ping this Season!

Many area businesses are beginning to wind down for the year. Locals have started their holiday shopping, eagerly counting down the remaining days of 2016. But for the POP Project, the year is far from over!

Arguably, we may have more balls in the air during these last few weeks than we have had the rest of this year combined. As our supporters, you also play a vital role in each of our giving and fundraising efforts. That’s why we want to make sure you stay in the loop.

Check out everything POP is up to at this very moment:

Leicester Elementary Gets a Little Library!

POP has been working quietly for some time to kickstart an initiative to install free little libraries around the community. Since receiving a Duke Energy Foundation grant earlier this year, our efforts have been fast tracked.

We are proud to say that thanks to a partnership with the Green Opportunities GO Build Program, we officially delivered our first free library to Leicester Elementary yesterday afternoon. The library will be installed between the school’s pickup lines for parents and younger siblings to utilize while they wait—sometimes for upwards of an hour! The library will be stocked with early readers and board books, as well as a few novels and other resources for parents.

Stay tuned soon for more news about free libraries around the community.

We’d Love to See You at Our Holiday Dinner

POP is partnering with Rhubarb, Catawba Brewing, and Gaining Ground Farm to offer an exclusive four-course holiday meal—and we’d love to see you there!

Join us at Rhubarb’s event space in downtown Asheville on Monday, December 12 for beer and appetizers, followed by a four-course dinner and beer pairing prepared by four-time James Beard Award-nominated Chef John Fleer of Rhubarb. A portion of every ticket sale supports our mission to provide better access to books for people in our community.

Seating is very limited—only 60 seats are available—and tickets are more than half sold. Purchase your tickets today!

A Holiday Dinner to Benefit the POP Project

Give!Local Helps Us Raise Funds while You Earn Incentives

give-local-2016Give!Local is Mountain Xpress’ online fundraising initiative benefiting 47 local nonprofits through micro-donations and exposure, including the POP Project.

But nonprofits aren’t the only one reaping rewards. As a donor, you get some great swag, too. At the first of the year, you’ll receive a coupon book (assuming you donated $10+), any incentives specific to the nonprofits you supported, and (fingers crossed!) one of the Big Give Day grand prizes.

The POP Project has a Give!Local fundraising goal of $1,500 by December 31. We’re currently at $109 raised, or 7%, of that goal.

TODAY is #GivingTuesday

Giving Tuesday logoSince 2012, the world has celebrated Giving Tuesday on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, a movement bringing people together “for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.”

This year, the POP Project encourages you to give back to your community by giving to POP. POP is a 100% privately funded organization, so every dollar given goes directly to our programmatic and administrative needs. Further, every dollar donated translates to $10+ in books donated to men, women, and children in our community.

Please make a donation to sustain POP’s mission through 2017. A gift of $30 means $300+ in books redistributed within our community. Give through Give!Local or our website.

But Wait, There’s More!

Believe it or not, that’s not all.

New Books for Area Youth – POP is currently arranging a BIG delivery of NEW children’s books to the Literacy Council. Purchased with the Glass Foundation grant secured early this year, these funds gave children served by the Lit Council the opportunity to choose their brand new own books, book fair-style. Stay tuned for news as students receive the books in time for the holidays.

Book Delivery Managers Needed – POP is still in need of another enthusiastic, long-term volunteer to organize our book deliveries. Help us arrange regular deliveries with existing contacts and reach out to new agencies in the region. Sort, count, and deliver books that match those needs. The donation manager schedule is part-time and extremely flexible. Respond through our Hands On listing or email us today at aPOPproject@gmail.com. We can’t wait to meet you!
