If you celebrate Christmas or other winter holidays, you’re probably getting ready to exchange gifts with friends, family, and coworkers. Will you get a book from someone? Will you give a book? We sure are!
But imagine a Christmas without books. No “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to read on Christmas Eve. No new novels awaiting you under the tree. No literary adventures to share with the young people in your life.
Unfortunately, that’s the reality for many people in our community. But POP can change that—with your help!
Give the Gift of Joy through Give Local…
Give Local is an online fundraising initiative benefiting 45 local nonprofits through micro-donations and exposure, including the POP Project. Every dollar raised by the POP Project translates to $10 in free books delivered into our community. So, by giving $10 through Give Local, it’s like you’re giving $100 in books to adults and children you may know.
And those books go to great new homes!
From head start programs in low-income neighborhoods to day shelters for the homeless and our local VA hospital, POP works alongside other local agencies to bring our mission to fruition. That includes delivering free books to the United Way’s Homework Diner program. Here’s what one of the resource coordinators for the program had to say about POP’s impact on their program:
“At our last Homework Diner, a little 6th grade boy was OVERJOYED to find his favorite book among the collection. They happened to be reading the book in class, but the students were not able to take the book home. He was wide-eyed and telling everyone, ‘This is my FAVORITE book! Now I have a copy for school AND home!’”

The POP Project finds new homes for used books across our community, but our mission scope is much larger. POP spreads the powers of literacy throughout the community by providing a greater access to books for people who need it most.
The POP Project has a Give Local fundraising goal of $1,500 by December 31. We’re currently at $955 raised, or 64%, of that goal.
