When we heard that there was a nonprofit who was scheduling an international event dedicated to spreading the love of books, we knew we wanted to participate. World Book Night was launched in the U.K. in 2011, and this year makes the trek across the pond to “promote the value of reading, of printed books, and of bookstores and libraries to everyone year-round.”
On April 23, participants chosen from around the United States will distribute 1 million books to adults who don’t read often or who have a low access to books. From handing them out on the Staten Island Ferry to visiting nursing homes, participants are planning their own special ways to share their titles, and perhaps inspire reluctant readers to pick up another book on their own.
The POP Project has been chosen as one of this year’s participants, and we are excited! There is still much to be done to line up a proper distribution point for the date, but we have a plan of action. Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for updates as we prepare for the big day.
Scheduled to coincide with UNESCO’s World Book Day, April 23 is significant among book lovers for being the anniversary of Cervantes’ death, as well as Shakespeare’s birth and death.

Do you have any suggestions of where we should distribute our 20 books? We’d love to hear your opinions.
