3 Ways to Stay Connected with POP through the New Hands On Website

Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, the volunteer branch of our United Way, recently went through an extensive online makeover. Active users will have noticed that about a month ago, the site switched designs, became responsive to multiple screen sizes, and took on several more features.

If you haven’t explored the new site yet, here is how you can stay connected to POP’s volunteer opportunities on Hands On’s new website.

1. Align Your Causes

Hands On now lets you filter their site by a selection of causes. When you create an account*, you can choose the causes that matter most to you. Anytime an agency matching those causes posts an update, you will receive an email about those matching events and opportunities. To make sure you stay abreast of all POP’s updates, select Community, Education, and Youth Impact among your favorite causes.

2. Become a Fan

Another great feature of the new Hands On site is its integration with social media and its similar elements. In addition to linking directly with our social media accounts, POP’s Hands On page has its own “fan” button. Become a fan of our agency, and you’ll receive an email anytime POP posts new things to Hands On. As a bonus feature, once you become a fan, the site helps you share your “new” love of POP to your personal social media accounts.

3. Be FLEX-ible

There are two main kinds of volunteer opportunities posted to the Hands On site: agency staff-led opportunities and volunteer-led opportunities. Hands On calls their volunteer-led opportunities “Flex” projects. POP’s monthly Homeward Books book sorting volunteer opportunity is one of these. If you no longer see Homeward Books listed on our agency page, don’t worry—they’re still happening. Now, our Flex project is listed with other Hands On-managed Flex projects here: http://www.handsonasheville.org/agency/detail/?agency_id=47217.

Don’t Forget to Log Your Hours

The three features above help you stay connected to POP. But this one is all about you.

Our favorite new feature of the Hands On site is the automatically generated volunteer resume. Now, after you log on*, you can find a summary of your logged volunteer hours and impact value on your personal dashboard. Simply click a button and Hands On generates a personalized printable resume that you can share with prospective colleges or employers.

Now You Can Stay Connected!

There are many more fun features on Hands On’s new site, and it’s likely even more will develop over time. Hopefully this short primer will encourage you to review your Hands On account and explore all the options and volunteer opportunities available. We hope to see you at upcoming POP events and volunteer opportunities this year.

*Note: If you previously had a Hands On account, the account login and approved volunteer hours for that particular email address should have carried over. You may be asked to change your password for the new site. Hands On can help you with any issues.
