Join us Sunday to Kick off Give!Local 2018!


The site has been live for a few days, but this Sunday marks the official kickoff of the Mountain Xpress 2018 Give!Local Asheville fundraising program! All are invited to the Salvage Station for live entertainment and to meet all the participating organizations.

Come Celebrate with Us!

Give!Local is kicking off THIS SUNDAY, November 4, 2018 from 5:30–8:30pm with a free community event at the Salvage Station in Asheville’s River Arts District. Enjoy musical performances by Heather Taylor and the Asheville Choral Society. Get to know more about the POP Project and many of the other nonprofits participating this year. And as a new addition to the family-friendly fun, there will be a silent auction.

Donating before or during the event is a great way to boost your favorite local nonprofit’s reach throughout the giving season. Plus, money raised in the silent auction will be awarded to the five nonprofits who have the most individual donors of any level by midnight on November 4. So, if you’re thinking about donating to POP, make your donation now!

How Give!Local Works

Give!Local is an online fundraising initiative that lets donors like you submit your holiday donations online, all in one place, and reap rewards in the process. Donate as little as $1 to any or all of the 40 participating local nonprofits, including the POP Project. Where and how much money you give is entirely up to you.

SPECIAL INCENTIVES FOR POP DONORS: Spellbound Children’s Bookshop will offer 50% off a Book of the Month subscription ($90–$300 value) to all POP Project donors of $100 or more.

Once you have completed your donations for the season, simply check out once through their secure online platform. After December 31, nonprofits like POP (we’re in the Arts & Literacy section) receive 100% of your donation.

But POP—and our book recipients—aren’t the only ones reaping rewards. Based on your total giving level, you too, are able to cash in—at a variety of local businesses. At the first of the year, you’ll receive a coupon book with a wide selection of offers for Asheville-based businesses, as well as any incentives specific to the nonprofits you supported.

How You Help Us Give Local

The POP Project finds new homes for used books, but our mission scope is much larger. POP spreads the power of literacy throughout the community by providing a greater access to books for people who need it most. Here’s what one of the United Way’s resource coordinators said about a recent book delivery:

At our last Homework Diner, a sixth-grade boy was overjoyed to find his favorite book. He was wide-eyed and telling everyone, ‘This is my favorite book! Now I have a copy for school and home!’

In fact, every dollar raised by the POP Project translates to $10 in free books delivered into our community. So, by giving $25 through Give!Local, it’s like you’re giving $250 in books to adults and children you may know, including those served by the United Way.
