Day of Caring 2013: Our Thanks to the Lit Council for Another Successful Year!

On September 12, the Literacy Council of Buncombe County lent us five absolutely wonderful volunteers for our Day of Caring 2013 donation project.

In just a few short hours, volunteers from our sister nonprofit, the Literacy Council of Buncombe County, helped us sort, pack, and deliver OVER $3,600 worth of books to 9 organizations and agencies around Asheville and Buncombe County – all in one afternoon! There were one or two short weather scares, but for the most part, the rain stayed away. We were grateful that the Lit Council ladies came prepared to work hard, and make a difference, regardless of what the forecast held in store. We could not have asked for more cooperative, helpful volunteers.

Their donation of time and effort ensures that hundreds of people within our community have a greater access to books, and many have their very own books to take home.

2013 was the second year we worked with the Literacy Council on our Day of Caring project, and POP’s third year participating overall. In our three years, POP and our Day of Caring volunteers have delivered over $13,400 during Day of Caring volunteer opportunities.

Day of Caring is an annual community-wide service day that pairs workforce volunteers with local nonprofits, schools, and public entities. POP encourages you to contact Hands On Asheville-Buncombe if you and your co-workers are interested in participating in 2014.

Imagine! Next year, this could be you:
