The POP Project’s ongoing goal is to provide books where there are few or none. Yesterday, in support of this mission and with the support of the Asheville Fire Department, POP unveiled a public Little Free Library at Asheville Fire Station 2, 415 South French Broad Avenue. The library sits beside a city bus stop, allowing riders to transform their waiting experience into an opportunity for learning or entertainment.
We are so excited that the fire department is allowing us to place Little Free Libraries at their stations! We were even more excited to see so many representatives come out to support the installation and unveiling of the first library. In addition to Fire Chief Burnett, a number of members of Station 2 helped stock the initial books.
Gently used books in this box are available for readers of all ages and interests. The initial supply books for preschool and elementary-aged readers are provided through grant funds from the Duke Energy Foundation.
This Little Free Library, as well as one to be placed soon at Station 5 (1074 Hendersonville Road; UPDATE), was built by students in the Green Opportunities GO Build Program. The Asheville-based job training program allows students to participate in life and employment skills training, as well as personal and professional development activities, throughout the course of their program.
These new library boxes are among thousands around the world representing the Little Free Library program, a grassroots movement designed to inspire reading, community, and creativity. Passersby of this and other LFL boxes are invited to peruse the selection, take a book from the library (either to keep or return later), or leave a book to share with others in the community.
The POP Project manages five additional official Little Free Libraries around Buncombe County. We have pledged to make sure the library boxes remain full of books. However, if you spot one running low on books, please let us know! Email us at aPOPproject@gmail.com.

I am building one for station 7 on E. Larchmont Rd. I also supply books on the inside of the Fire House for the Firefighters. Should I continue?

Thank you. I will send you a photo of the finished library and I will supply books to any location I see in need of books. I collect books for that purpose. I work part time at Downtown Books & News. I live across the street from Station 7. I love to see what the POP PROJECT is doing.
