We Owe it to You: 2020 Give Local and End-of-Year Fundraising Results

We asked, and your response was overwhelming! The POP Project is excited to help more people enjoy a book-filled 2021, thanks to you.

GIVE LOCAL FUNDRAISING RESULTS

The Give Local online fundraising program is an annual Mountain Xpress initiative that enables locals to help area nonprofits through micro-donations. POP was one of 2020’s participating nonprofits, and will be receiving 100% of donations made to us through the site, free of any credit card processing fees. And we are SO thrilled by the donations you made:

THANKS TO LOCAL DONORS, POP RAISED $1,485 DURING THE 2020 GIVE LOCAL CAMPAIGN—JUST $15 SHY OF OUR GOAL!

ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISING RESULTS FOR 2020

Give Local was our main focus during the 2020 end-of-year fundraising season. However, it is never the only avenue by which donors are able to give. Generous donors gave an additional $160 through our other digital and offline channels from November 1–December 31.

In addition, Charmed Boutique in Downtown Asheville donated a portion of its December sales to POP. Charmed is a fun and affordable clothing, jewelry, and accessory boutique, located just across the street from Malaprop’s Bookstore. Thanks to the generosity of holiday shoppers dedicated to shopping local, Charmed gave $621.71 to the POP Project as a welcome new year’s gift!

THAT MEANS, POP’S COMBINED FUNDRAISING RESULTS TOTALED $2,266—MORE THAN 50% ABOVE OUR GOAL AND 75% OF OUR 2021 BUDGET!

WHERE THE MONEY GOES

POP’s total 2020 budget is set at $3,000. Our goal was to start the year with half that in the bank. We met that goal and exceeded it by 50%, thanks to your help! We are thrilled to have a generous head start toward our mission for the year.

The POP Project will allocate these funds so that our volunteer staff can focus on our mission and our passion: to provide more men, women, and children in our community with access to FREE books. Every dollar in POP’s budget translates to roughly $10 in books delivered to schools and head start programs, nonprofit agencies, veterans’ facilities, food pantries, public Little Free Libraries, and detention centers in Asheville and surrounding areas.

Your donations mean that more schoolchildren will have more reading materials as they learn from home. Veterans have something to read while they wait for appointments. And training centers will have more resources to offer job seekers who may be switching careers.

You’ve shown that, like us, you believe books build a stronger community. Here’s to a heartier, healthier, and more capable community in 2021!
