You Can Go Home Again – POP’s New Flex Project Prepares Books for People Placed in New Housing

The POP Project has created a new monthly volunteer opportunity in conjunction with Hands On Asheville-Buncombe. Called “Homeward Books,” the program will create book packages for people recently placed in new housing by our fellow nonprofit, Homeward Bound of Asheville.

On the second Monday of the month, POP volunteers will create “book shelf starter-kits” as an informal extension of Homeward Bound’s “Welcome Home Project.” The Welcome Home Project provides a basic setup of furniture and housewares to support people recently placed in permanent housing as they transition into stability. POP believes that every new home also deserves a shelf of new books, and has committed to help provide those to the people served by Homeward Bound.

The “book shelf starter-kits” that POP will put together will include a few good novels, cookbooks, home-improvement guides, etc., to help make new houses a home.  Volunteers will sort, count, and package boxes of books, which will be delivered at a later time by POP staff.

We’re excited about the possibilities of this new program, and hope that YOU will join us in our beneficial collaboration!
