We’re Ready for Spring! Are You Ready to Make an Impact?

It’s about time! Warm weather seems to be getting closer every day, and with warmer weather, POP will be offering more regular volunteer opportunities and lining up more book donations.

Many of our volunteer projects and programs are weather contingent, so we are excited to start kicking some big things into gear! Here are a few great ways to get involved with the POP Project in the coming months and make an impact in our community:

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

volunteer2Sorting Books: This is one of our biggest, ongoing needs, and it’s an easy way to make a difference in only a few short hours. Our regular Second Saturday volunteer activity is called Homeward Books, and involves sorting through our incoming book donations to prepare them for their new homes. If you’re interested, click here to sign up via Hands On Asheville-Buncombe.

Make Book Deliveries: Delivering books is what we do, and you can help, too! We have established relationships with organizations and centers in WNC who accept regular donations from us. Locations range from Buncombe, Henderson, and Madison Counties, so you can still help even if you don’t live in town.

Act on the Board of Directors: POP is currently building our board as part of our 2014 initiatives. Do you have lots of volunteer experience and want to step up your involvement? We’re a growing 501(c)3 with 2 open board positions. Click here to download an application or contact us today.

Suggest New Agencies: We currently have a surplus of adult fiction and nonfiction books. Please contact us if you know of any agencies or organizations in Asheville, Buncombe County, or Western North Carolina who would benefit from a greater access to books.

DONATE AND INVEST:

The POP Project welcomes first-time donors. Please consider giving today!

Make an Investment: The POP Project continues to grow to fill the needs of Western North Carolina. And with an increase in capacity comes an increase in needs. We are always looking for Monthly Storage Donors to help cover these costs. Additional items that could be donated in-kind are listed on our most current Wish List. Contact us to make a donation today!

Children’s Books: The need for good books is ongoing, so donations are always welcome! POP donates children’s books more quickly, and in greater numbers, than adult books in many cases. Contact us today if you are downsizing and have children’s books, or would like to donate funds to be used specifically for our children’s programs.

Host a Drop Box: For the convenience of our book donors, we have several drop locations located in and around Asheville. These small bins are meant for people who have a few books to donate in passing and do not need to set up a book pickup with POP. Contact us today if your company, business, or organization would be interested in hosting a public drop box.

We Can Do it with Your Help!

With your help, and the help of the greater Asheville community, the POP Project will continue to grow and evolve without losing sight of our main goal: to make sure no book goes without a home, goes unread, sits on a shelf and collects dust, and that all of the books we are entrusted with are used for constructive, personal expansion.
