In March 2011, Jim, our Executive Director, decided it was time for the POP Project to have its own blog presence. His idea was to write one post a week about something related to books, whether it be about literature, libraries, or a topic inspired by the organization’s endeavors to provide books to various populations. Thus, the Incredible Vanishing Paperweight was born.
From the start, his ideas did not seem confined to the world of books. As we learned more and more about how to be involved in social media and expand our reach digitally, what we learned began to find its way into the posts. The Incredible Vanishing Paperweight became more than just a book blog.
However, our efforts to create an online community did not go unnoticed. The POP Project was recently recognized by the Mountain Xpress (and linda215) as one of the top nonprofits in Asheville to watch on social media.
With that wonderful acknowledgement, the POP Project is delighted to continue our online efforts with renewed enthusiasm.
Inspired by a new year and a new look, Jim has decided to continue IVP, but as a blog distinct from his connections with POP. (To continue following his posts related to technology, futurism, and the evolution of the book industry, click here.)
The POP Books Blog will be our new outlet for ideas, reviews, and recordings related to the POP mission (see below) and pledge to continue along this vein. Future posts will be all original, brought to you directly from POP staff, board members, and community partners.
As you continue to follow our posts, we invite you to comment. Make additions to our ideas. Add value to our arguments. Submit your own reviews, commentaries, and accomplishments.
The POP Project works to improve the quality of our community, whatever its geographic reach. It is our reward to hear your voices speak louder in return.
