In 2012, the POP Project was excited to participate in the inaugural World Book Night USA by handing out copies of “The History of Love” in downtown Asheville.
This year, POP is even more excited to participate for our second year. We are receiving 20 copies of our first choice book for this year: “The Phantom Tollbooth!” A modern fairy tale of sorts, the book follows a boy named Milo into the Kingdom of Wisdom – a kind of Wonderland of puns and fun characters.
The book is a wonderful children’s novel, and we’re so proud to be able to introduce it to children in our community.
Know a kid (or kid at heart) who would benefit from having access to this great book? Come see us on Tuesday, April 23 at WALK in West Asheville.
World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books during which tens of thousands of people share books with others in their communities. Held on April 23, the anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth and death, the purpose of World Book Night is to spread the joy and love of reading to adults and children who don’t read often or who have a low access to books.
Be sure to check back here or on our Facebook page for continuing coverage and photos of the big night. For more information about World Book Night, visit their website at http://www.us.worldbooknight.org.
