The POP Project is a 100 percent volunteer-led organization. Our success is built on the passion and dedication of members of this community who believe in our motto: Everyone deserves a good book.
We are a young nonprofit, but we have been steadily growing each year since we began in 2009. Our mission is to make a difference to people in this community by providing a greater access to books, and we depend on our community members to help us continue to grow in size and reach.
POP wants to keep expanding our donation base, programs, and volunteer opportunities during the coming year. And with an increase in capacity comes an increase in needs.
This holiday season, give back to your community by giving the gift of books. Your donations can be applied to the specific needs listed below, or be utilized for ongoing administrative needs. In addition, we welcome funds sent for other purposes, such as building our Spanish-language program, travel expenses as POP expands our giving to additional WNC counties, World Book Night and Banned Book Week programs, or maintaining a dedicated volunteer space.
Help POP line up a successful New Year. Please take a look at our wish list, and contact us to donate today!
General Items:
6-Foot Folding Tables – $39.99 each
POP holds our book sorting volunteer opportunities outside, and would benefit from a few more folding tables. We have had to rent tables in the past. Help us purchase them once and then have them whenever they are needed.
Click here to purchase these online, or contact us today to make a donation toward this item.
We currently have 3 of the 5 tables needed! Please help us get the remaining 2 on our wish list.
Portable Radio – $16.99
It’s fun to sort books with like-minded people. It’s even more fun when there’s music. Don’t you agree?
Help us provide music while our lovely volunteers sort, count, and prepare book donations.

Gas Cards – $10+ each
POP donates books across Western North Carolina and the Southeast. Help our volunteers continue the good work without worrying about their gas mileage.
Donate one card, or help us buy several!
This is an ongoing need. With more funding toward travel and deliveries, we can expand our reach to more counties across WNC.
Folding Hand Truck – $39.99
When POP makes donations, we like to donate big! Help us move more books – and serve more people – with this folding hand truck!
DONATION RECEIVED! Thanks to our recent anonymous donor whose gift helped us purchase the hand truck in November.
Development Needs:
Volunteer Locations
Many of POP’s volunteer opportunities take place outside, at the storage unit wherein we keep our books. Sometimes – especially this summer – weather conditions affect our ability to follow through with our volunteer days.
Do you know of a place we can use as a rain location? (Short term storage capacity would be a great plus!) Send your ideas to us today!
Storage Sponsors – $60.00/month
Did you know that POP’s largest administrative expense is in storing books before they reach their new homes? Each month, POP asks for two monthly storage sponsors to help us cover the costs of our storage units.
Every donation is greatly appreciated. Contact us today for more information.
Drop Box Locations
Since 2011, POP has received hundreds of books through our donation drop box. We would love to expand our reach by adding drop boxes to more places in the area.
Would your business or organization be interested in hosting a drop box? Contact us today for more information.
Our current locations are at West End Bakery in West Asheville and Spellbound Children’s Bookstore in Reynolds Village. Don’t forget to patronize our wonderful ongoing drop box hosts!
