POP Painted Asheville “REaD” at Banned Books Week Event

Categories:

The POP Project recently celebrated Banned Books Week 2012 by hosting the “Paint the Town REaD” read-a-thon in downtown Asheville, NC.

We were proud to have 13 excellent readers help us fill the day with beautifully-crafted, melodic, contraband book passages. From Dr. Seuss to Ernest Hemingway, from “Alice in Wonderland” to the “Satanic Verses,” our readers stood up against censorship and helped promote access to all kinds of books.

Among our readers this year were Asheville City Councilman Gordon Smith, local music favorite Aaron LaFalce, social media diva Barbie Angell, and representatives from the Multiverse and Malaprop’s Bookstore. Even the Asheville Citizen-Times stopped by for a chat.

POP had a great day downtown, and couldn’t have asked for better weather! We hope to see everyone – and more! – for Banned Books Week 2013!

Some of our favorite photos are shown below, but you can click over to our Facebook page for the full album.
