The POP Project is proud to announce that our recent donation to Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison marks the fifth state to whose maximum security prisons we have taken large book donations!
Our Georgia drop seemed to prove that things truly do get easier with practice. Our previous state prison donations have seen us jump through hoops in order to find contacts, sign paperwork, and navigate the prison grounds. We have been told to contact state senators, fax lists of hundreds of titles, and meet at poorly marked, seemingly nonexistent warehouses on back corners of prison grounds.
In contrast, our drop off at Georgia Diagnostic was a breeze. Located just off the interstate, it was easy to find, and simple to navigate. Our contact was knowledgeable and easy to find. Their guards were understanding and accommodating. It was every prison book donor’s dream!
Unfortunately, photography is largely frowned upon on prison grounds, and Georgia Diagnostic made no exception. So, in order to remember our wonderful trip, we took a few photos of our book mascot as he toured the streets of Athens, GA. More adorable photos can be found on our Facebook page.
The state of Georgia does not have a separate prison for maximum security female inmates, so this donation was our ninth state prison drop across the Southeast. Our previous donations have been to the men’s and women’s prisons in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
