North Asheville Bookstores Rise and Shine in October

There are a handful of great bookstores within Asheville’s compact downtown district. Each has its own personality and specialty, and booklovers could lose a whole afternoon wandering from one to the next.

But this October, two bookstores* well north of downtown are celebrating major milestones. The POP Project encourages you to visit them if you have not yet and let us know if you think they’re as great as we do.

Norbury Books & Cafe

Norbury celebrated its grand opening on Main Street in Weaverville on October 11. The brand new bookstore is named after a location in a Sherlock Holmes story and is housed in a former bank. The space features a great selection of mystery books in the former bank vault, as well as a wide selection of new and used books in other genres, from cooking and crafts to classic fiction or children’s books. In addition, Norbury’s cafe offers a selection of sandwiches and pastries, which you can enjoy when you sit down there for tea with a pot of one of the more than 15 varieties available.

Visit Norbury Books & Cafe at 62C North Main Street, Weaverville, or check them out on Facebook.

Spellbound Children’s Bookshop

While Norbury is celebrating its first few days in business, Spellbound Children’s Bookshop is holding its 10th anniversary this month! The shop opened its doors originally in West Asheville in 2004, and has since weathered several moves and a down economy, remaining strong today. They are holding their 10th anniversary party this Saturday, October 25, at the shop’s location in Reynolds Village, Woodfin. Join the special birthday-themed storytime at 11:00 AM and come back at 3:00 PM for a costume party featuring spooky stories, craft activities, refreshments, a costume contest with prizes for various ages, and lots of cool door prizes.

Spellbound Children’s Bookshop carries books for kids of all ages, from picture books through YA novels. Visit them online or in person at 50 North Merrimon Avenue, Suite 107, Asheville.
