The POP Project recently completed our annual Day of Caring volunteer and book delivery day. We’re proud to say that it was our most impactful day yet, thanks to a great group of volunteers from the Beverly-Hanks & Associates realty agency!
In just a few short hours, eight volunteers from Beverly-Hanks helped us sort, count, pack, and deliver OVER $7,000 worth of books to nine organizations and agencies around Asheville and Buncombe County – all in one afternoon! That amount demolished our previous 2012 record of $5,500 in books, and was nearly the amount of the last two years’ deliveries combined.
Yet again, the weather on Day of Caring looked a little iffy, at best. In order to avoid a rain dilemma like we encountered last year, POP organized a rain location at the West Asheville Library. While we narrowly managed to avoid another mid-event storm, we were grateful for the indoor space, since it afforded us extra space, tables, and bathrooms that our storage facility cannot provide. We were grateful that the Beverly-Hanks team worked with us to help make this move indoors and that the change of location didn’t hamper their productivity at all.
Their donation of time and effort ensured that hundreds of people within our community, including children and veterans, have a greater access to books, and many have their very own books to take home.
2015 marked the POP Project’s fifth annual Day of Caring participation. In those five years, POP and our various Day of Caring volunteers have delivered over $24,800 during Day of Caring volunteer opportunities alone. Day of Caring is an annual community-wide service day that pairs workforce volunteers with local nonprofits, schools, and public entities. POP encourages you to contact Hands On Asheville-Buncombe if you and your co-workers are interested in participating in 2016.
